Tackling Inequalities in Health Project (TIHP) Stakeholder Engagement Workshop

Go Back

Date: 14 December 2009
Venue: Antrim Enterprise Centre
Time:

Tackling health inequalities is a key government priority and a target has been set for reducing the gap in life expectancy between the most disadvantaged and the Northern Ireland average.

There is wide recognition of the challenge faced in achieving this target.  The difficulty is demonstrated by the fact that despite improvements in overall health within Northern Ireland, the gap in life expectancy between the poorest and others remains unchanged.

Earlier this year the Northern Investing for Health Partnership (NIfHP) established the “Tackling Inequalities in Health Project” (Project Overview enclosed).

The “Tackling Inequalities in Health Project” aims to increase local awareness and understanding of the wider health, social and economic circumstances of local communities and areas where life expectancy falls below the Northern Ireland average and to pilot with key stakeholders an evidence-based approach to address local identified needs in these areas.

A TIHP introductory workshop will take place on Monday, 14 December 2009. The workshop will provide an opportunity to learn more about how this pilot initiative can help to increase knowledge and understanding of local health inequalities and contribute to the debate and discussion on how best to address identified local need, in the context of new arrangements (e.g. with regard to commissioning and community planning) resulting from the Review of Public Administration.
