"We live here, we know the problems and given support and resources, we can do something about them" (consultation response from the community sector1). The Networks Involving Communities in Health Improvement (NICHI) is a 3 year project, started in 2009 by the Northern Investing for Health Partnership (NIfHP). Based on an earlier pilot, the project aims to promote community involvement in health improvement across the whole of the Northern area. This project reflects the values and principles outlined in Investing for Health and in the Government’s Guidance on Personal and Public Involvement2 and it is envisaged that it will contribute to the Stakeholder Involvement Programme.
