Cookstown Warm Homes Group Helping to Tackle Fuel Poverty

With the country in recession and the rapid rise in unemployment in the Cookstown area, it is no surprise that experts are predicting the number of households in fuel poverty to have doubled over the last 3 years.

Establishment of Community Food Forum for HAZ Neighbourhoods

Work is currently underway to establish a Community Food Forum, led by the Health Action Zone, to support community-based, innovative approaches to local food initiatives in the Northern area.

The Christmas party season will soon be in full swi and with plenty of opportunities to drink to excess, people may not realise the potential health consequences of drinking too much over the festive period.

Housing Executive presents first Home Energy Awards

An initiative to help those in fuel poverty in the North East was amongst the winners of Northern Ireland’s first Home Energy Awards hosted by the Housing Executive at the Stormont Hotel on 18 February 2009.  The Awards were presented by the Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie MLA.
