Local stakeholders come together to focus on community transport.

The Northern Investing for Health Partnership recently hosted a Community Transport Workshop held in Antrim Civic Centre. Representatives attending the workshop included, local Councils, the Northern Health & Social Services Board, the Department for Regional Development, the Northern Health & Social Care Trust and a range of voluntary and community representatives including - Antrim Community Forum and Cookstown and Western Shores Area Network.

The availability of adaptable and cost effective transport can affect the most vulnerable individuals, living within our local communities, from accessing healthcare, education, shopping and other social activities. The workshop provided an opportunity for key stakeholders to comment on the 'Challenges & Opportunities' facing Community Transport within the Northern area.

The half-day workshop included an exploration of some of the barriers preventing individuals and communities from accessing conventional transport services and what could be done to strengthen the role of Community Transport across the NHSSB area.

The findings from the workshop will contribute to the development of a local action plan to address inequalities in transport provision to meet the needs of the local population. For further information on the development of the action plan contact Roger Kennedy at the Northern Investing for Health Partnership on Tel: (028) 2531 1199.
