More Accessible Local Health and Wellbeing Statistics

Date Added: 15 January 2008 | Category: GeneralHealth statistics in Northern Ireland have been made more accessible thanks to the launch of a new website.
The new website is the result of collaborative working between members of the Investing for Health Partnerships across Northern Ireland, and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety.
The Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Information Service (NINIS) provides a central point from which users may access a large range of statistical information on local issues.
The site uses multiple geographical areas available at six levels: Super Output Areas; electoral Wards; towns and villages; Local Government Districts and Parliamentary Constituencies.
Health Minister Michael McGimpsey emphasised the benefits of using such a system, which will provide free access to information relating to small areas across Northern Ireland.
Using the Investing for Health Strategy as its starting point, the site provides information on the health and well-being indicators that have been identified in the Strategy. It will also provide support for policy makers, monitoring the development of efficient and responsive services.
Speaking about the new resource Doctor John Watson, Chair of the Northern Investing for Health Partnership and Director of Public Health at the Northern Health and Social Services Board commented:
“This new web based facility provides a range of information on the wider determinants of health and wellbeing that are being tackled through the local Investing for Health partnerships’. The website will provide our partners and other interested stakeholders within the Northern area with useful information, at a local level, which relates to the goals, objectives and themes, such as poverty, education and skills and healthier choices, being progressed through Investing for Health.”
It is expected that the new website will be a useful resource for local communities, assisting them to build a picture of the health and wellbeing needs in their local areas.
The NINIS website for Investing for Health is available and free to access at:
